A Few Words Before We Begin

Here are some things to consider before we begin. First of all, I’m mainly a programmer, not a graphic artist or any kind of wizard when it comes to page layout and design. This site is intended to be functional, not “pretty”. Hopefully it’s not too ugly either. 🙂

Second, this is not a “responsive” theme. There’s no way you’re going to be able to lay out a site on your phone, and I see no reason that this site should be readable on a tiny device. My hope is you’re looking at other things while going through this material, and that you can view them on a “normal-sized” screen, like your laptop or desktop. You may want to make your sales site so it’s responsive and works well on a tiny screen, but I’m getting old and my eyes aren’t what they used to be, and I prefer to use a BIG screen to do my work on. In fact, I do my work on a Mac Mini connected to a 55″ 4k TV that serves as my monitor. It has the same resolution as a 2×2 layout of 27″ HD monitors, only there aren’t lines between the top/bottom and left/right panels. It’s just ONE BIG PANEL. 🙂

And 55″ 4k TVs are CHEAP!  You don’t want a fancy one to use with your computer, so the dumber the better. Find one without a fancy OS of any kind in it and it’ll be perfect. The OS adds a bunch of stuff to make movies, TV shows, and games look better. I don’t watch them full-screen because it’s too damn big for that. I sit about 3-1/2 feet from the screen, and it’s quite comfortable. I have a bunch of different windows open at once, and I can arrange them so I can see them all at once — instead of having to keep swapping one to the top of a pile to read something, then swap another to do something else. It’s like having 5 different books open on your physical desk at once… very comfortable and natural.
